Rainmaker's Dance (2021) // 3'
Humankind has always been subject to the capriciousness of Mother Nature. Rain has been a particularly powerful force—bringing life and devastation. Our ancestors implored the gods of rain to intercede on our behalf, gifting us with rain to nourish our crops and enable our survival. These rituals are ubiquitous across many cultures, involving reverent singing and dance to appease the spirits of nature. Rainmaker’s Dance depicts such a ritual, beginning with a reverent incantation before launching into an unrelenting dance in mixed meter.
Rainmaker’s Dance was composed for the 2021 Indiana Clarinet Experience (ICE), and was premiered on June 11, 2021 in Rhinehart Recital hall on the campus of Purdue University, Fort Wayne.
